WHAT LEVEL DO I REGISTER FOR?

These are suggestions so what level might be most appropriate for you or your dancer coming to the DC Tap FestIf you feel after the festival has begun that you have registered for the wrong level, you are able to change it in person at our registration desk. Our faculty reserves the right to change a student's level based on what they feel is best suited. 

Sync Babies
Suitable for dancers ages 4 to 7.
Adult Program 
For dancers ages 16+. Dancers have the opportunity to discuss, collaborate, and work at a slower pace than the other classes.
Beginner
This class is for somebody new to tap dance, with 0-3 years experience. It is ideal to have a basic grasp on tap dance vocabulary. For a reference of what Beginner dancers have learned in previous years, click here 
Intermediate
This class is for someone with 4-5 years of experience comfortable moving and has clear sounds, but isn't ready for too fast of a pace. For a reference of what Intermediate dancers have learned in previous years, click here 
Intermediate/Advanced
This class often uses Advanced choreography but taught at a slower pace. This class is for someone with 6-8 years of experience who has great technique but wants a slower pace to ask questions and process. For a reference of what Intermediate/Advanced dancers have learned in previous years, click here 
Advanced
Our most fast-paced classes. These are best suited for students with 8+ years of experience who can move quickly, pick up choreography fast, and are very comfortable improvising. For a reference of what Advanced dancers have learned in previous years, click here 

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS 

Choreo for Video Shoot
Learn the choreography in order to participate in the DC Tap Fest Video Shoot! Video shoot dancers MUST learn choreography in their chosen level before the day of the video shoot.
Tap Technique

Work on your skills! Rudiments, across the floor, combinations, all things tap dance technique in a focused environment. 

Broadway Workshop

Learn Broadway-style movement from the professionals themselves - stars of Broadway, Tony award nominees, giving you the skills to take the stage. 

Performance Workshop

Stage presence is everything! Work on making your tap dancing a full body experience, focusing on your movement quality, energy, stage presence, performance.

Tap Company Workshop

Working in a company setting and being a member of an ensemble is an invaluable skill for a dancer. Learn from directors of the top tap companies in the world what it takes. Company repertory may be shared, along with insight into a company's rehearsal process and experience.

Producing Tap Music

Work closely with a musician to create beats and think percussively. Tap dance is music! 

Improv

Improvisation is a major part of tap dance's history. Learn to tap into your creativity, trust your skills and create music and movement instantaneously.

 

WHERE DO I FIND MY CLASS/PACKAGE INFORMATION? 

All schedule information, package details, and purchased class recording access will be found in your Thinkific portal. We will email you instructions on how to access this portal closer to the festival. 

 

HOW DO I TAKE CLASS ONLINE?

If you are taking the DC Tap Fest from home, you will access to your purchased classes through your Thinkific portal. All classes will be held via Zoom (links will be in your Thinkific portal) and recordings will be uploaded after class for you to access for 30 days.

 

I AM TAKING CLASSES ONLINE. HOW LONG WILL I HAVE ACCESS TO THE CLASS RECORDINGS?

You will have access to your purchased class recordings in your Thinkific portal for 30 days! They will be live until October 5.

 

WHAT DO THE I LOVE TAP PACKAGES INCLUDE? 

I LOVE TAP! Packages include unlimited classes in your chosen level. (Adv, Int/Adv or Int), 1 Ticket to the Jam Party / Cutting Contest, 1 Ticket to the Student Showcase, Access to Panel Discussion, History Classes, Sisterhood/Brotherhood Classes. 

*Note that the packages do not include a ticket to the Concert on Friday, or residency tuition. These must be purchased separately. 

 

ARE CONCERT TICKETS INCLUDED IN PACKAGE DEALS?

No, they are not. Concert tickets are sold separately. 

 

HOW DO I BUY A TICKET TO THE ALL STAR CONCERT?

Tickets will be onsale SOON! We will send an email out notifying you of how to buy these tickets.

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VIDEO SHOOT?

Video shoot dancers MUST learn choreography in their chosen level before the day of the video shoot. To do so, attend one of the "Choreo for Video Shoot" classes (highlighted in orange on the festival schedule, found at www.dctapfest.com!)

 

ARE STUDENTS IN THE CHOREOGRAPHY RESIDENCIES PERFORMING IN THE CONCERT?

Yes! They will perform in the concert. Each teacher will let students know what they will wear. ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE A TICKET TO THE CONCERT IN ORDER TO WATCH!

 

WHAT IS THE STUDENT SHOWCASE AND CUTTING CONTEST?

Student Showcase: Students are given the opportunity to showcase their talents. 2 min max. Everyone must bring their own music on either a cell phone or as an .mp3 file. All ages are welcome!

Cutting Contest: The Cutting Contest is a battle where dancers compete and showcase their technique, skills, and musicality. The winners of each age group receive a prize. All ages are welcome! Students registered for the I LOVE TAP packages have access to these events. Students who are not registered in package deals must purchase entry tickets either on their online registration forms or at the Registration Desk on-site at the Festival. Parents are welcome to attend and will need to purchase an entry ticket as well.

Sign Ups will be on site at the Festival for both the Student Showcase and the Cutting Contest. Both events are held at the Westin Hotel.

 

 

CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE FACULTY PANEL/STUDENT SHOWCASE/CUTTING CONTEST/JAM PARTY ONLINE?

No, these are only in person events. Each will be live-streamed on our social media if you want to watch, link TBA!

  

WHAT IS SISTERHOOD/BROTHERHOOD?

Sisterhood/Brotherhood Classes are an opportunity to build self-esteem, set dreams and goals, connect with a greater purpose to uplift each other as a community. Sisterhood will be run by the female faculty and Brotherhood by the male faculty. Participants can attend whichever session they most identify with. 

 

WHAT IS THE TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP?

The teacher training workshop is a three day program led by acclaimed educator Karida Griffith. Students must register for the full program, it’s classes are not available a la carte. You will have access to recordings of these sessions for 30 days if you are not able to make it to some or any in person. WHAT IS THE ADULT PROGRAM?

These are classes for students 16+ where dancers have the opportunity to discuss, collaborate, and work at a different pace than the other classes.

POLICIES & INSTRUCTIONS

  1. It is highly recommended that you purchase your concert tickets in advance. Seating is limited! Packages do not include a ticket to the Concert on Friday. Your lanyard from your package purchase will serve as your admittance to the Jam Session and Student Showcase/Cutting Contest. It is to be used by the student only. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend Elective Classes. (History, Panel, Sisterhood/Brotherhood) and Nightly Events for an additional cost - please purchase a la carte at dctapfest.com or pay in person at the Festival. 
  2. EVERYONE must fill out their personal information, 
  3. POLICIES: Please register early, class sizes are limited! Classes are available on a first come, first serve basis. If a desired class is full, you may take a different class at the same time. 
  4. Our faculty reserves the right to change a students level to better match his or her ability. 
  5. Choreography Residencies will perform in the concert. However, every performer must have a ticket to the show in order to watch the show.

  7. Sisterhood/Brotherhood Classes are an opportunity to build self-esteem, set dreams and goals, connect with a greater purpose to uplift each other as a community.   8. Student Showcase dancers may only perform MAXIMUM 1 solo and 1 group. Every piece must be shorter than 2 minutes. Sign up will be in person at the registration desk the day of the Showcase.  

 

COVID POLICIES

In compliance with Washington DC government policies, the Chloe and Maud Foundation and the DC Tap Fest are suggesting the following: 

  • Wearing at the DC Tap Festival will be optional. Some students and teachers may wish to continue wearing masks.

  • If you’re not feeling well, stay home, even if you have mild symptoms. If you were in contact with someone who’s sick, stay home while you watch for symptoms.

  • Chloe and Maud Productions, the Chloe and Maud Foundation, the DC Tap Festival, the Westin, instructors, sponsors, event locations, and all other affiliated parties are not liable for any illness or injury that may be incurred as a result of participating in any activity connected with the Chloe and Maud Productions, Chloe and Maud Foundation, or the DC Tap Festival.
